Moxi Laser in Nashville

Between Moxi and BBL, we get some version of the same question almost every week: "which one do I actually need?" Both are laser and light treatments, both live under our Laser + Light menu, and both show up together so often (Moxi + BBL) that it's easy to assume they do the same thing. They don't. Here's how they're different, and why a lot of our clients end up doing both.

The short answer

Moxi is a fractional resurfacing laser - it creates thousands of microscopic treatment zones in the skin to trigger collagen renewal, improving texture, fine lines, and overall skin quality with minimal downtime. BBL (BroadBand Light) is a light-based treatment that targets pigment and redness at the surface — sun spots, rosacea, broken capillaries, and uneven tone. Moxi works on texture and structure. BBL works on color and tone. A lot of the best results we see come from combining them.

How they're different

What they treat. Moxi is best for fine lines, rough texture, enlarged pores, and early photoaging - it works by remodeling the skin from within. BBL is best for brown spots, redness, rosacea, and visible sun damage - it works by targeting pigment and blood vessels directly.

Downtime. Moxi is designed to be a "low-downtime" laser - expect mild redness for a day or two, similar to a light sunburn, with some light flaking as treated cells turn over. BBL downtime is typically shorter; spots may darken temporarily before flaking off over 5–10 days, but there's minimal broad redness.

How it feels. Moxi uses a numbing process beforehand. Moxi tends to feel like light, quick pinpricks across the treatment area. BBL feels more like a rubber band snap or a warm flash of light.

Results timeline. Both build gradually. Moxi's collagen-remodeling benefits continue to improve for weeks after treatment. BBL results are often visible faster, as pigment darkens and flakes away within the first one to two weeks.

How they're the same

Both are performed in-office, both typically require a series of treatments for best results (not a single fix-all session), and both are considered "lunchtime" procedures for most people - many clients come in on a break and return to normal activities the same or next day. Both also work well as ongoing maintenance treatments rather than one-and-done fixes.

Why we often recommend both together

This is the part that surprises people: Moxi and BBL aren't competing treatments, they're complementary ones. Moxi improves texture and fine lines from within the skin. BBL clears surface pigment and redness. Layered together in the same visit, they address both the structural and the surface concerns most people are actually trying to fix - which is exactly why "Moxi + BBL" shows up as its own combined offering rather than an either/or choice.

Which one is right for you?

Moxi tends to be the better starting point if your main concerns are texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, or overall skin quality, and you want a gentle entry into laser treatments with minimal downtime.

BBL tends to be the better starting point if your main concerns are visible sun damage, brown spots, redness, or rosacea, and you want to even out tone rather than change texture.

Combining both is usually the move if you want a genuinely comprehensive result and are comfortable doing two treatments in one visit (or back to back).

What to expect at your appointment

Whichever you choose, expect a consultation to assess your skin and goals, a numbing period, the treatment itself (typically 20–45 minutes depending on what's being treated), and a short list of aftercare instructions - think gentle skincare, diligent SPF, and avoiding direct sun for the days that follow.

The bottom line

Moxi and BBL solve different problems, and neither is "better" in isolation - it depends on what you're trying to fix. If you're not sure which fits your skin, that's exactly what a consultation is for, and it's common to leave with a plan that includes both.
